Cow's milk is a good source of protein for baby calves. For the rest of us, it can cause several problems.

  1. Inflammation. Dairy is rich in natural acids. Your body tries to neutralize these acids by releasing calcium from your bones. This can cause calcium deposits to build up and potentially cause arthritis and long-term inflammation.
  2. Skin problems. When you consume dairy, your skin can develop acne, redness, splotches, or dullness. Many people notice huge improvements to their skin when they stop consuming dairy. This is because your liver is better able to remove toxins and your skin isn’t left to do all the work itself.
  3. Digestive problems. Dairy can also cause damage to your digestive system, due to the way it inflames the gut lining. This can cause bloating, constipation, diarrhea, or even long-term Irritable Bowel Syndrome. It can also cause and irritate leaky gut syndrome, which can lead to autoimmune disease and other health issues over time. Many people who suffer from more serious disorders such as Crohn’s disease find improvement after they ditch dairy.
  4. Cancer. Dairy has been found to be a leading cause and contributor to prostate, breast, testicular, and colon cancer. Dr. T. Colin Campbell, professor emeritus of Nutritional Biochemistry at Cornell, says “Casein [the main protein of cow’s milk] is the most relevant chemical carcinogen ever identified.”

Yes. Dairy products such as milk, cheese, cottage cheese and yogurt are good sources of protein. Be careful to look for added sugar in yogurt though.
