When hot magma pushes up from the Atlantic ridge, (A large,under water volcanic mountain range in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean) it has to go somewhere, so it pushes out and slowly forces the continents to move over the magma below it. Tey only move about as fast as fingernails grow, though.
