bombing raids, i guess Uh, please check your history - the U.S. was never bombed during the 1950s. There was however great fear that the Soviet Union might attack the U.S. with its nuclear weapons, so people prepared for the worst by stockpiling food and water in underground bunkers.

By the late 1960's people often spoke fun of those people (made fun of them) that built those bomb shelters. ALthough no doubt some may still exist, bomb shelters in the US are a thing of the past which ended in the 1960's.
