most trimmers have a metal blade that cuts the excess line. your's has probably fallen off
I have such a Snapper straight shaft weed trimmer, purchased at Wal Mart and the original head has part number M-1541, but I have found this part anywhere on the web yet. Lowe's has a universal replacment head (box says fits 98% of weed trimmers) for around $20 in June 2009. Good luck.
