What causes a false positive on a pregnancy test I have taken multiple HPT that have came back positive and than I have gone to the clinic only to find out that im not pregnant.What could cause this?

the same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. i still don't know what caused it. I'm very worried about it though. 5 home pregnancy test said positive a week later blood and urine test came back negative! i do have cysts on my ovaries but they said they could cause a false positive. i would really like to know what could!
- pretty much agree with the above answer. pregnancy kits detects the HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin hormone) levels in the urine/blood. Normally, HCG is only present when a woman is pregnant. Now, if the result is positive and you are not pregnant, I think you better have your HCG level tested in the lab. Abnormal HCG levels indicate either ovarian cysts or cysts in the uterus.
