I just fixed this problemon A 1999 Alero...
It was the front wheel bearing. You will need to replace the front wheel bearing hub assembly. Do not re-use the hub nut. Get a new one from the dealer as it's only about $10 each.
The wheel hub assembly is torqued to 70 foot pound (three bolts).
The axle nut (hub nut) is torqued to 173 foot pounds.
Please verify the torque values with your dealer or auto part store as models years may be slightly different.

If it is a thumping and a front wheel drive car, it is probably one of the axles.
If your ignition will not turn, try turning the steering wheel slightly while you turn the key. Sometimes the steering wheel will get locked in place and doing this will allow the ignition to move again.
The driving lights on a Volvo xc90 are turned off by turning the knob on the left side of the steering column. Driving lights are used to notify other driver's of the vehicle's presence.
Yes, but it should be looked at as soon as possible. This is because it is a safety hazard. Vehicles that originally had power steering installed and then it fails does not drive like a vehicle that never had power steering. There is s direct relationship between the speed (or movement in reality) of the vehicle and the ease of turning it without power steering assist (or when your power steering is disabled). If you are at a stop for instance, turning the wheel is much more difficult then a moving vehicle and turning it and this should be taken into account when driving a vehicle without power steering.
