your tranny is going into whats called "LIMP MODE". My 97 is doing the same thing. I have found that if I come to a stop and turn the key off for about 15 sec. and then restart the car its fine again. We also changed our filter and half the fluid. Our mechanic said the tranny is shot and needs rebuilt or replaced. We are going to drive it as long as we can with this problem. He said it will progressivly get worse but to keep it around town cause when it goes your gonna need a tow truck. Sorry for the bad news but it sounds like the same problem we are having.
