What causes an intermittent knocking sound from underneath a 1998 Vectra 1.6 16V while being driven when a new exhaust has been fitted?

You need to take the car back to where the exhaust was fitted.It's quite common to need a couple of goes at aligning the system,most likely cause is the rear box needs the clamp slacking and push the box on a bit more to clear the rear panel.It takes very little contact to make a dreadful noise.The engine flexes over under accelleration and moves the exhaust back and forth in it's rubber mounts.
