Nationalism- minority groups form the idea of gaining independence

Militarism- race for arms; the more a nation increased its military force, others would want to do the same (by having bigger navies, bigger armies and new weapons).

Imperialism- Countries competed for colonies in Africa.

Alliances- Europe created several alliances, but the flaw in that was if 2 countries had a disagreement that led to conflict, it would bring their alliances into it and cause a greater issue.
