Osmotic pressure occurs when two solutions of different concentrations are separated by a semi-permeable membrane. Often the solute cannot move through the membrane, so there is pressure for the water to move from the less concentrated side to the more concentrated side, to dilute it.

Osmotic pressure across the cell wall, here called Turgor Pressure.

Does placing plant cells in a hypotonic solution causes the osmotic pressure to increase?

When a plant cell is placed in a hypotonic solution, the osmotic pressure tends to increase as the water in the cells moves to a place elevated in solute concentration. The osmotic pressure is the chief cause of support in numerous plants.

If you place a red blood cell in disstilled water what would happen to the cell And why?

The cell would swell and burst because of the osmotic pressure causes water to move into the cell.

When water leaves a plant cell the osmotic pressure will increase of decrease?

The osmotic pressure will decrease. The osmotic pressure is decreased because the water is leaving the cell.

What is The pressure exerted against the cell membrane and cell wall known as?

hydrostatic pressure or turgor (same thing)

An animal cell that is surrounded by fresh water will burst because the osmosis pressure causes?

What is the normal osmotic pressure in a human cell?

280 mm Hg. albumin, globulins, fibrinogens all contribute to osmotic pressure in the cells of the human body.

What is the name of the organelle that maintains osmotic pressure in a cell?

Osmotic balance maintained by several organells.Main organell is cell membrane.

What is the role of NaCl in Nutrient broth?

NaCl is generally added to the nutrient media for maintaining the Osmotic pressure. Maintaining osmotic pressure is important, because, increase or decrease in the osmotic pressure leads to cell burst or death due to the effect of osmosis. So, maintaining the osmotic pressure is done by adding correct amount of NaCl.

Starch and glycogen molecules are a means for a plant or animal cell to store what in order to keep the osmotic pressure in the cell constant?

In order to keep the osmotic pressure in the cell constant, starch and glycogen molecules are a means for a plant or animal cell to store glucose. Cells require sugar or glucose as a source of energy for many different functions.

Importance of osmotic pressure?

Secret. ^_^ Here is a simple experiment for Osmotic pressure in the blood :http://www.wisc-online.com/objects/ViewObject.aspx?ID=NUR4004 , My Bilogy teacher told me that Turgor pressure and Osmotic Pressure in plants are the same so if shes right, means osmostic pressure is the water that enters the cell and pushes against the cell wall which keeps the plant cell turgid.. Please make sure of what I said before spreading or learning.
