Could be from a number of different things, bites, Allergies and more. The best thing is to take your dog to a vet. It could be something that ends up causing the dogs throat to swell and prevent them from breathing.
There are several possibilities. One would be insect envenomation, such as a snake bite, spider bite or bee/wasp/hornet sting. Another would be an infected, abscessed or damaged tooth. There could be a broken bone in the muzzle, a hematoma or bruise, or other trauma. It could be a sinus or nasal infection, or a tumor in either location.
If your dog appears troubled by the swelling, or it persists for longer than 48 hours, it would probably be a good idea to take your dog to the veterinarian for an examination.
