It also can be caused by certain viruses on your computer...
Reason: Microsoft are s**t
Solution: Hammer
On a more useful note it could be a number of things but often boils down to recently installed hardware conflicts or memory errors. Try unplugging any new hardware.
If that fails then if coul dbe that one of your memory modules is have a mare, try taking out one of the chips and booting up if it still fails replace that chip and pull one of the other(s).
Without more info I can't really help you! Google is a good source for this though, there are plenty of forums discussing this problem.
Many things can cause BSOD.
Before you attempt to fix it back up anything important to an external hard drive or flash drive in case your data becomes inaccessible.
Before you can find the solution you must find out what is causing it. If it only happens when doing a certain task, first try updating the software to the latest version, if applicable.
If it happens at random times, first download SlimDrivers, and scan for out-of-date drivers. Update all out-of-date drivers, and see if you still have problems.
If you do, try checking the RAM for errors. To do that, download the latest MemTest86 for 32-bit computers, or MemTest64 for 64-bit computers. To find out which type you have, click "Start" and right-click "Computer" or "My Computer", and click "Properties". It will either say "32-bit" or "64-bit". If it says "x86", you have 32-bit. "x64" means 64-bit.
Download either the one for flash drive or CD. If you are using a CD, download ImgBurn. Click "Write Image File To Disk". Put the CD in the drive. Click the yellow folder, and select the ".iso" file. Burn it to the CD. Now, restart your computer with the CD in the drive and, if you get a message saying something like "Press Any Key To Boot From CD or DVD", press a key. If not, refer to the owner's manual on how to boot from CD.
Leave all settings default, and let it run a full scan. That may take a while. If any errors are reported, replace all the RAM with a kit, even if some old modules are still fine. You should not use old RAM with new RAM.
See if that fixed it.
If not, scan the hard drive for errors. To do that, right-click the C:\ drive, and click "Properties". Under the "Tools" tab, click "Scan For Errors". Check both boxes and click "Scan". If you get a message saying to restart, let it restart. If any errors are found and repaired, see if you still have problems. If errors were found but not repaired, you may be able to get away with not replacing the hard drive.
If it does not get the BSOD for a few minutes after you turn it on, but does after a few minutes, it is probably overheating. Clean out all the dust and see if you still have problems.
New Hardware, bad Hard Drive, bad RAM, bad ports on your motherboard, unsupported hardware, so on and so forth.

Blue Screen Of Death
Yup. That is the technical name of the Blue Screen of Death.
Probably you are trying to use variables called by reference, and when you're calling you are trying to access a memory protected area, so it causes a blue screen. Or you are working with hardware in an incorrect way.
