You must have made some kind of mistake. I would go over everything I did very carefully.
The red " BRAKE " warning light in your dash comes on if the emergency brake / parking brake is on , or if the BRAKE FLUID LEVEL in the brake master cylinder ( located in your engine compartment , near the firewall , on the drivers side of the engine compartment ) IS LOW
Somewhere near centre of dash.
The brake warning light comes on in your dash if the emergency brake is on or the brake fluid level in the brake master cylinder in your engine compartment is LOW
According to the Owner Guide that is the service park brake warning If the warning stays on or continues to come on take the vehicle to a dealer for servicing of the parking brake
YES-IF IT has a vaccume booster & not Hydro or air brakes
the parking brake is either sticking or the sensor is bad This could also be a warning that there is something wrong with the braking system. The light is not only for the parking brake in most vehicles.
If your vehicle has separate dash panel warning lights for brakes and emergency brakes, then the e-brake light being on while not engaged may indicate that the e-brake switch may be maladjusted or faulty. If the brake warning light is on, it may indicate a brake fluid leak, or in some cases, low brake fluid levels in the reservoir. If your vehicle has a shared warning light for e-brake and brake warning, all causes listed above could apply.
That warning light means a light bulb is out. Check all of your brake lights (including the brake light on the rear dash!)
The handbrake... Low brake fluid warning
brake warning light
there are a bunch of lights all over the dash on a '86 SL. Does this light come on near the fuel gauge? Is it an oxygen sensor light? Does this light come on the bottom of the instrument cluster? Is this light RED? There are several warning lights on the bottom row...emergency brake light, brake wear warning light, brake fluid reservoir warning light,ABS warning light....? You really need to be more specific as to the location and appearance of this light. If you have your owner's manual handy, take a look at that. If you don't have one, I suggest you order one from MB. They come in very handy.
Low brake fluid and the parking brake being on are the two most common causes.
