You must have only the accessory wire hooked up and not the continueous power lead. Both are needed for the radio to keep memory. If just the continueous power lead in hooked up the radio will always have to be manually shut off. The accessory only has current through it if the ignition is activated.
alternator is probably not charging. you need to fix this NOW. new alternator is likely the only repair.
The Battery? No, not typically the battery. That means that the alternator is not charging the battery and IF the engine is running, it's getting all of it's electrical energy from the battery. It means that once the battery charge is depleted, the engine won't run again until you recharge the battery.
