Believe they were still on the floor at that time look for a push switch drivers side floor left side. If not then it is on the column
take the old out and install a new one about 4 hours on a garage floor.
well either your heater core is bad or your outer window door seal is leaking . i had the same problem on my Monte Carlo and i had to remove 1 of the studs that hold on the weather striping on the lower part of the door so it could drain .

Any steering column from a 1978-83 Chevy Malibu, 1978-87 El Camino, 1978-88 Monte Carlo could work, depending if it's a column or floor shift
on the front side of shifter handle is a slot with a metal clip in it use a pick or small screwdriver and pry the clip out the handle will lift off
I believe they came with the floor shifter, I can't ever remember seeing one on the column. If you are refering to the G-body cars. Yes, floor shifters were optional 84-88. All 83 models had column shifters
unhook fuel lines from the tank and the wiring and then at the back of the tank there are 2 bolts that you take the nuts off the straps that hold it up, have a floor jack under the tank and lower it down.
