Well, there are some factors that can prevent a girl from getting her period, or cause it to be delayed. The obvious reasons are if she is pregnant, or on Birth Control. Otherwise, some factors could be sudden weight gain or loss, because it chnages the hormone levels in the body very rapidly. Some medications might cause a missed period. Stress can also result in a missed period or two. If a girl doesn't have her period for mor than thee months in a row, she should go to the doctor because that could be a sign of a more serious medical condition.

When a girl reaches puberty, she begins to have her period. It is caused by the lining of the uterus coming off. Sound a little technical? Here's an explanation.

The way that a baby is made is when a sperm and an egg come together. Sperm comes from a boy, and an egg comes from a girl. Eggs are not the size of chicken eggs, as the name might suggest- they're so small that you can't see them, in fact. Sperm and egg come together in the girl's vagina. The egg travels up to a girls' uterus, and the egg and sperm implant in the wall of the uterus. Then, a baby starts to grow.

But what happens if the egg and sperm don't come together? That's what menstruation is. The lining that the egg and sperm implant in gets old every month or so. It falls off of the uterus, and comes out of the vagina. It looks like blood, but it's actually made of the lining.
