Baking soda/water will neutralize. You can use a wire brush on terminals or one of those post cleaners with wire inside (if you have posts) Sandpaper works too. Also, if you put a copper penny between & can keep it there, the corrosion will attack it vs terminals.

What do you clean car battery corrosion off with?

Best is a wire brush and baking soda. You can use grease to coat the terminals to slow down the corrosion.

How do you replace the battery in a 1991 Chevy Lumina?

take the bracket off that is partially covering the battery. This should be held in place by 3 bolts. after that, all you have to do is take the wires off that connect to the terminals. the battery should just lift out, but may be stuck from corrosion or just if it has been sitting a long time. take the bracket off that is partially covering the battery. Why would your 2003 jetta's brake booster pump turn on 30 seconds after you turn off the car and drain the battery?

Check your battery terminals. If there is a loose connection or corrosion on the terminals it can cause the brake booster to malfunction due to lack of power to the vacuum sensor.

Problem with battery post corrosion you clean them but problem reoccurs and your car wont start until posts recleaned Is there a product to prevent corrosion or is this a symptom of another problem?

There is a product that looks like flat washers made of felt that you can fit over the battery posts that will prevent corrosion (don't remember what it's called, but available at your local auto aprts store or Walmart). You can also try putting a dab of grease on the battery posts and terminals after cleaning. The grease will work best for you to help eliminate corrosion's. The point of putting grease on the terminals is to keep oxygen from coming in contact with the terminals and also help with keeping acid off the posts. When you clean the terminals use baking soda and water to neutralize the acid which will help for future corrosion

When you turn on the ignition it fires but has a click when starting?

Likely the battery cables are corroded but the battery is fine. If the battery is good and your getting a clicking sound there likely that ...green corrosion... if you peel the rubber back off your terminals you will seee it. Don't waste money by not making sure the battery is dead first.

Will your car start if you have corrosion that looks like grease on the battery terminal?

It could start but if it is indeed corrosion you probably want to clean it off. Somtimes people will lightly apply a form of anti-corrosion grease to battery terminals to prevent corrosion. Your typical signs of battery corrosion look like greenish or white stuff that will crumble away easily when disturbed. You probably don't want to touch it though a bottle of water and some old rags (where some protective gloves and/or wash hands thouroghly afterwards) that you can throw away, should clean it up. The battery terminal affected should be removed and cleaned to a shine with a wire brush for best results. Be careful working around battery terminals as not to short the battery it could be very dangerous. But yes battery corrosion will definitly cause a car to not start. I don't recall seeing it look like grease, that is unusual. Hope this info helps.

I parked your car and now it gets no power but the battery is charged?

take the battery terminals off and wire brush then and the terminals on the battery too to clean them and then re-hook.

How do you detach a car battery?

Most of the time there a nuts on the battery terminals , you only have to loosen them up and pull on the terminals away from the battery, they should pop right off afterwards.

Corrosion around an electrical terminal causes an increase in electrical resistance. explain why this would be undesirable in a battery?

As the corrosion increases the resistance, and batteries are designed to give a specified voltage to the circuit attached to it, hence if the resistance across the terminals of battery increases thn the voltage drop across the terminals of battery will increase, causing a decrease in voltage supplied to the external circuit, which is undesire-able. Hope u got the answer :) ---- Corrosion allows atoms of energy to drain off through the frame. If the battery is not a newer one it will go dead soon. Corrosion is the wrong term oxidation of metal is what occurs when electrolyte leaks. WHEN that is evident then the additional resistance induced will limit the current output. Basically reduce the efficiency of the battery as a source of power. ----

What happens when you connect the car positive and negative battery terminals together Will this reset car computers?

If you connect the terminals together with them unhooked from the battery and the engine off, yes that is also called a capacitive discharge. If you connect the terminals together with them unhooked from the battery and the engine off, yes that is also called a capacitive discharge.
