Depends on the snake, most snakes will be just fine with a temperature gradient of 75 degrees (F) on low side and 85 degrees (F) warm side and a a humidity of 30%-50%. Common Corns thrive with these conditions, other snakes like Green Tree Boas prefer higher humidity and require special care as far as watering. You can find good books at your local reptile store on the more common species usually kept as pets.
