From the battery to the starter or a power distribution centre, red is power and black is ground. After the starter or PDC, the wire will change colors and sizes, some have stripes, some don't and sizes vary. It's all designed to help mechanics find problems by crossreferencing the wiring in the car with what they see in the service manual.

Go buy a wiring harness. It clips right in to the old wiring, and only takes about 3 seconds. Its about 15 dollars, and you only need to wire the new harness to the new CD player/radio, and the colors will match.

There are several wiring harnesses on this vehicle. Perhaps it would be helpful for you to specify WHICH wiring harness you had in mind.

Buy a Haynes or Chiltons Manual. They have wiring diagrams in the back with wire colors listed.

The purpose of the wiring harness is to help keep wires together instead of hanging freely. You can purchase a new wiring harness at any auto repair shop.
