In the years 2011 and 2012, Bank of America did not purchase or acquire any new companies. As of 2013, the company has not acquired any new companies, either. In the year 2011, Bank of America began downsizing its operations, and will continue to do so until the year 2014.
Bank of America does not own Wells Fargo. Wells Fargo just bought Wachovia though.

While Bank of America is relatively modern, the Bank of Boston (which was bought by Fleet in 1999 which was bought by Bank of America in 2005) traces its roots to the Bank of Massachusetts founded in 1784. The Bank of Massachusetts is the second oldest bank in the country according to Wikipedia (the oldest bank is not specified). It is quite possible that the oldest bank lost its charter and its line ended.

Not exactly. Interfirst and Republic Bank merged during the S&L crissis. The merged bank was called FirstRepublic. This bank failed in '88 and NCNB bought it from the FDIC. NCNB changed its name to NationsBank. NationsBank merged with (bought) Bank of America and took its name.
I believe it was National City bank which was recently bought by PNC.
