I dont know, i have 2 silver dollars at least 4 yrs old and when i was cleaning the tank they started doing it. I plan on watching them for the month and see if we have babies. I don't go by all the rules everyone says. For 8 yrs I have had gold fish with tropical fish and I am told they won't live because of different temps, NOT TRUE. I keep the heat off in the summer, even thou my house is air conditioned at 62 in summer. Its by a window, no drafts and no i don't get a lot of algae either. When I clean the tank i put really warm water back in, if you weren't told keeps ick and stress down when you do that, helps fish to heal quicker. I feed them every 3 to 4 days, less ammonia, cleaner tank, less water changes. I have well water, direct from tap. When testing perfect every time. Maybe it was the warm water I added that got them in the mood, try it.
