2000 Grand Prix GT Fan Not working
There are two fuses for the fans.
COOL FAN1, 30A fuse for the Engine Coolant Fan Motor (LH).
COOL FAN2, 30A fuse for the Engine Coolant Fan Motor (RH)
The above two fuses are ok.
Follow the following procedure to check.
make sure if my explanation matches your vehicle when you note and if it does not match then do not proceed.
* remove the COOL FAN1 Relay * mark the terminals on the note book. * Relay coil terminals are 86 and 85, terminal 86 of the relay is from the COOL FAN1 fuse, Terminal 85 is from the (PCM) Power Control Module. * Relay switching terminals are 87 and 30, terminal 87 of the relay is from the COOL FAN1 fuse, Terminal 30 of the relay is from the fan. * Does your car match the above explanation? if yes, proceed to the next step.
* Put a jumper wire between the terminals 87 and 30, be careful that you put the jumper wire on the switching terminals not on the relay coil terminals.
* Switch on the key ( ignition on), no need to start the vehicle. the fan should run at low speed. if the fans run at low speed that means the power wiring for the fans are ok. if the fans do not run at low speed then you have to check the ground for the Engine Coolant Fan Motor (RH, Coolant fan 2) and make the fans run at low speed as in the above procedure.
if the fans run as above and still the fans do not work in normal operation then that means PCM is not switching the COOL FAN Relay 1.
then the problem may be with coolant temperature sensor or the power transistor in the PCM.
you can check that too if the problem is on the sensor or with the power transistor in the PCM.
I hope your problem will be solved.
lack of care and maintenance in the radiator dept.....how about checking your radiator fluid? checking the radiator itself for leaks, and replacing your thermostat. if this does not work then the problem could be lack of changing the oil....or burning of your transmission check your oil and tranny fluid.....flush the transmission....also if you tow stuff with your tracker you could easily burn out your transmission and that could cause the vehicle to over heat as well.
Drain the radiator. disconnect the top radiator hose from the engine. Remove the water inlet that the hose was hooked to. The thermostat is in the housing. Replace the gasket when replacing the thermostat.
Follow the upper radiator hose from the radiator to the engine and at the engine you will find a housing with the thermostat inside. When replacing it make sure the spring goes toward the engine.
Changing the thermostat on a 2002 Chevrolet 4.8 liter engine is simple to do. First, follow the upper radiator hose to the thermostat. Then drain the radiator hose. After the hose is drained, remove the clamps and bolts holding the thermostat housing in place. Then remove the old thermostat and replace with a new one.
Follow the upper radiator hose from the radiator to the engine and at the engine you will find a housing with the thermostat inside. When replacing it make sure the spring goes toward the engine.
check your thermostat to see if its opening.
The cost varies widely depending on the make and year of the vehicle.
Follow the upper radiator hose from the radiator to the engine and there you will find a housing with the thermsstat inside. When replacing the thermostat make sure the spring goes toward the engine.
Follow the upper radiator hose from the radiator to the engine. Where it meets the engine there is the thermostat in the housing. Make sure you install the spring TOWARD the engine when replacing it. GoodluckJOe
check that the thermostat was not put in upside down. also check radiator cap pressure
It is located at the engine end of the upper radiator hose. Take the thermostat housing off. When replacing the thermostat make sure the spring goes toward the engine. It is not the upper radiator hose...it is the lower one..
You need to burp the radiator and cooling system.
