common problem with 1998 mystique check engine light on
There is a battery light above the engine temperature gauge
A malfunction has been detected
I have a 2.0 1995 Mercury mystique the battery charge light was on no output on old alternator. Replaced alternator No output from new alternator "charge light out" (wiggle test wires& re-check wires) at alternator *still no output* is there a fuse that could be the problem or just another bad alternator... I would check the alternator plug before getting another alternator, it may be bad. And is a lot cheaper to replace.
not charging the battery properly... check the alternator.
Normally it means the alternator is failing.
You will have to fix the problem with the car, most places like auto zone can hook up a code scanner to the for free and tell you the reason the check engine light is on, once you get an answer, then you can fix the problem and the light should disappear.
On a 1998 Mercury Mystique : To the left of your tachometer is the seatbelt reminder light and Under your fuel gauge is the airbag readiness light ( if the light stays on or flashes take your vehicle in to have the airbag ( Supplemental Restraint System , SRS ) system checked out / repaired
