== == If the noise occurs while shifting gears, the gear shift shaft underneath the car could be tapping on the exhaust. This problem is caused by a shifter that has too much play. To fix this, there is a rubber clasp holding the shaft in place, buy a new rubber clasp if the one you have is worn and loose. This is the solution I have found. If the noise occurs while clutch is released, well, then your're on your own!

What causes manual transmissions to have no power when shifting?

If the clutch is not slipping, I would say the transmission is fine, the engine may be the reason for the lack of power.

Why is it hard to shift gears in my manual car?

There are many reasons why a car is hard to shift when there is a manual transmission. The clutch is one of the main reasons why a car is not shifting properly. Another reason could be that the transmission is low on fluid.

How many Hours does it take to replace the clutch in a 2003 Saturn ion?

That depends on operator / driver ability to properlyup-shift and downshift gears without putting increased wear on pressure plate. Do not ride the clutch for any reason as this will cause premature pressure plate / clutch wear. Clutch wear is caused from starting out in the wrong gear and riding the clutch or letting the clutch out to fast, jarring the drive train, same as downshifting, letting the clutch out forcefully and putting additional stress through out the drive train. Improper releasing the clutch pedal can damage a clutch very easily; When starting out on level ground release the clutch slowly until vehicle starts to move then apply the gas slowly, watch your RPM gauge and when up-shifting, try to keep the shiftsSMOOTH;DO NOT pop the clutch for any reason as this will cause clutch and transmission failure;Clear concise shifting at recommended rpm will save clutch wear;Pulling a trailer also will put additional stress on the clutch /pressure plate and causewear if not operated properly;Road conditions also play a factor, as excessive wheel hopping, dirt, can also cause pressure plate failure;Learning to shift without a clutch is possible but may cause transmission. To make your clutch last longer, just use your clutch carefully and drive with due care.Clutches wear out over time as does any auto part, but are made to last if properly adjusted. However nothing will last forever so careful shifting without taking excessively long periods to make the shift is important. My rule of thumb is when starting out in first gear, release the clutch and hit the gas gingerlywithout jarring the drive train, once the vehicle is moving reach the desired rpm and depress the clutch while completing the shift, release the clutch prudently, try to keep everything as smooth as possible. When downshifting remember that you must factor in that RPM'S as downshifting and letting the clutch out fast will cause drive train issues if not done correctly;Starting on hills, takes practice, even the most skilled drivers stall the engine until they get the hang of it, using the emergency brake is a sure way to cause clutch wear unless extremely skilled. Many truck drivers, only use the clutch when starting out and then use the rpm ( or engine sound ) to shift gears without the clutch, this is said to stop spaghetti leg which is a repetitive motion injury due to excessive shifting;Good Luck; From BJ

Why would car sometimes run and idle fine but sometimes stall while idling with clutch in. low oil light also randomly comes on when shifting?

My car does the same thing, except for the low oil... from time to time when I come to a stop I'll push in the clutch and it will randomly stall... I think its b/c my idle is not set high enough, but there could be a different reason...

Why does a clutch fail?

There is more than reason. A clutch has plates that engage and disengage. The plates can wear out , often mostly due to riding the clutch or other improper operation. The clutch also has bearing and springs- if any of these breaks, the clutch fails.

Why is the clutch siezed on a Mazda mx-3?

usually a clutch does not seize. what happens is that your clutch is not moving, it could be from: no fluid in line, broken fork, air in the line, damaged pressure plate. but if for some reason the clutch is seized... then you will have to replaced clutch and flywheel.

What would cause a Suzuki Sidekick 89 to have problems shifting into 3-4-5-R?

5sp;? yes, you did says stopped or moving or upshifting or down shifting , so .....?can be clutch or linkage.slipping clutch1 test.follow my 1 inch rule. if that passes , tranny is baddoes not pass , then cable is bad , worn siezed or free play wrong.these cables go bad at 100k , they wear a grove inside and bind.just replace it for $45 new at Suzuki or Auto zone buy a LUK (tm) cable.http://www.kick-fix.com/tranny/clutch/clutch-on-kick.htmlI forgot to say the #1 reason for bad shifting (not clutch)is the plastic parts on the tip of shifter lever. is bad gone or nearly worn out.part #27 hereseesuzuki p/n here.http://www.fixkick.com/buy-parts.html#5sp-shiftIf it shifts in and out of 1st and 2nd fine, I would suspect that your shift linkage is either loose, bent or jammed.the acid test is to shift it by hand like this.http://www.fixkick.com/tranny/shifting/cheating1.jpgor by moving part #30 (2nd link above) with just shift lever removed.

What do the shifting levers do on a Chevy 350 transmission?

There is one mechanism on a turbo 350 for shifting into PRND21. I would not describe it as a shifting lever since it is a shaft sticking out the side of the trans case. For that reason your question doesn't make much sense. Perhaps rewording would help.

How do you adjust the clutch on a 1995 Suzuki sidekick It slips bad?

If the clutch adjustment is correct, so that the clutch takes halfway through its travel, then it's time for a new clutch pressure plate/clutch plate/throwout bearing combo. One other reason might be grease on the existing clutch plate due to sloppy mechanic assembly.Or a combination of the two. New clutch time!

Could it be the slave cylinder the reason why you have no clutch pedal?

Yes. If either cylinder or the line fails, you lose the clutch pedal. Slave cylinder is a good place to start.
