The odometer has failed. Unfortunately, there isn't realy any troubleshooting involved. The speedometer and the odometer run off the same input.
In a nutshell the above is correct, because to fix it you have to replace it. I own a 1997 Mazda B4000, except for cosmetics....same truck. Found the answer myself today...in the instrument panel there are 3 clusters....the cluster with the tack, spedometer, odometer and trip odometer is where your issue lies....there is a plastic gear that wears out inside...be advised their is a great deal of labor involved in this project....I highly suggest a proffessional do this for you...also due to it being a plastic part, I would rather buy a new part from the dealer than take my chances at the local yard were the part has been exposed to the elements for however long. Their may be other issues involved, but his was my experience
On a 1995 Ford Ranger : The ODOMETER is near the center of your speedometer
Your speedometer may have failed, or the speedometer cable that connects to the transmission, or the plastic gear in the transmission may be broken.
Speedometer is ran by electronic sensor on rear end. Odometer is ran from speedometer. If both don't work problem is sensor. If speedometer works sensor is okay. If speedometer works and odometer does not problem is in mechanical parts (gears) of of odometer and has to be replaced. Can get used from eBay (search for speedometer or odometer, is one unit) or take to dealer.
If the speedometer works but the odometer does not work, you have to replace the worm gear on the back of the speedometer. you can buy one from: SPEEDOMETER GEARS.COM part# 10-021w 95-99 ford explorer/ranger/f-series price includes shipping inside the u.s phone # 1-800-446-2880
speed regulator sensor needs replacement
Check to see if there is a sticker on the end of the driver's door showing the original size of tire , and compare that to what is currently on the Ranger. Any change in tire size or wheel/tire combination if it is not a similar diameter as the factory set up will throw off the speedometer.
my ford 2001 ranger had the same thing happen to me i sent to the ford delear for repair and it was a missing fuse so check all fuses
A worn or frayed speedometer cable will make the speedometer shouter. As the speedometer cable becomes more frayed the speedometer will eventually quit working.
the odometer is driven by a tiny electric motor now what fails on this is tha rubber worm gear now the only way to fix this problem is by buying a whole new spedometer cluster which runs about $300 from ford
Yes , I BELIEVE the last year for a speedometer cable on a Ford Explorer was the 1995 model year so the 1991 Ford Ranger would definitely have a speedometer cable
1996 ranger does not have speedo cable it is electronic
The 1999 Ford Ranger pickup truck speedometer sensor diagram can be obtained from most Ford dealerships. The speedometer sensor diagram can also be found at most auto-parts stores.
