What could be wrong if your 2-year-old dog won't eat or drink the past 2 days and just lies around and you took him to the vet and they gave him a stool softener but didn't say what was wrong?

If they think he's constipated (which they obviously believe, hence the stool softner) it might take a day or two for things to work. If he isn't better after 1 or 2 days of treatment with the stool softner, take him back to the vet.
