If there is no sound at all, your solenoid on the starter has likely failed. If it clicks then you either have a weak battery, or failing solenoid. If the check gauges light is on and the vehichle refuses to start check each gauge display for any signs....is the oil pressure at a decent level? where does the heat gauge read? if it has over heated or lost oil pressure the engine computer has a safety cut off to prevent damage to the engine i.e. the engine seizing from lack of oil or overheating from no coolant. is the fuel gauge reading properly? fuel pressure, bad fuel pump, dirty filter will deny the engine the necessary fuel to ignite when the starter is initialized. If the engine tries to turn over but there is a lack of spark it can be do to a fuel issue or lack of energy to start...
I had this problem that was similar and it was a poor connection on the ecm located under the console beneath the radio. there was a poor ground connection and i was not getting the voltage to the guages as if a switch was turned off.

When the check gauges light comes on it is telling you to check the gauges because at least one of the gauges is out of normal range. It could be low oil pressure, engine over heating or low voltage.
