i have one here at my shop. my tech says that the ignition module in the distributer will go out about every 5 yrs or so. not a bad fix
yes, if the Cadillac converter is not working properly it can cause you to loose power and may in the future cause you to loose your engine.
Reading the codes requires a scan tool.

this happened to me alot and i am not a car guy, but it seems the mechanics have to adjust the vacuum pump
My first diagnosis would be a blown freeze plug, check that and you may find your problem.
A bad fuel pump can cause your 1995 Oldsmobile two react in this way. A bad camshaft can also cause the engine to rev up.
Interference engine be sure to change your timing belt every 60k miles if not your car is a ticking timebomb with a VERY short fuse it will bend your valves or could cause your engine to seize if the belt fails in any way
most likely cause is worn front end parts. I.E. tie rod ends ,balljoints and wheel bearings. Any competent mechanic can tell you with a basic check. This condition could be dangerous if you were to need to make a quick reaction. The vehicle may not respond as you might like it to. Hope this helps.-Backyard mechanic
