Ok.. There are quite a few things this could be caused by and will start off with the simplest first and most frequent benign causes - usually, enlarged nodes from infection are tender when Palpated
Recent flu or virus
Ear infection
Throat infection
ANY kind of infection of the head including Teeth
Some viruses like HIV, CMV (Cytomegalovirus), Mononucleosis or EBV Ebstein-Barr are infamous for causing lymphadenopathy
It is important to know how long it has been there. If it's been there more than several months, it warrants further investigation, like a CBC - Complete Blood Count
Do you have other enlarged lymph nodes (Neck, clavicle, armpits or groin)
If it's been more than a few months or you have other nodes present, it is important to know if you have
Fevers
Unintentional weight loss
Chills
Night sweats
fatigue
If so, your doc will most likely want to biopsy the most easily accessible node for biopsy to rule out any malignancies - There are so many to list: But here are the most popular
