YouTube was founded by Steve Chen, Chad Hurley and Jawed Karim, former employees of PayPal. The three entrepreneurs had worked together at another internet startup called Echo Nest Labs. They wanted to create a platform where users could upload, view and share video clips. The site was officially launched by Jawed Karim on the 25th of February 2005, he was the first person to upload a video on YouTube.
