In most places it is illegal but people still kill whales. It's sad, I know.

Yes, they are carinvores and predators. They even kill whales on occasion.
Historically, they have hunted whales for food. The hunting of whales has virtually stopped with bans, but if you search hard while in Japan, you can still find whale on some menus.

Blue whales never attack humans and in most countries it is illegal to kill blue whales but in some countries they do kill blue whales it is very sad i know
The southern right whales were the right whales to kill because they were slower swimmers and had alot of blubber with could be sold for money. Hope this helps.
