Chinchillas originate from the Andes high up in Peru. They like cold weather, they bathe themselves in volcanic dust from these mountains. They are super active and can jump six feet in the air.

They originate from the Andes mountains in South America and thousands still live there. But because of the high demand for chinchilla coats most that live in the Andes mountains are being killed. :(

It was from rabbit breeders who wanted a rabbit to resemble its cousin, the chinchilla. They bred rabbits that looked somewhat like a chinchillas and then they created a rabbit with agouti fur! Goal Complete!

It is a breed of rabbit that has been bred over and over again to make it look like it's cousin, the CHINCHILLA!!

It didn't "come" from anywhere, breeders created that breed of rabbit.

Chinchillas came from the Andes mountains in South America and over time slowly began descending from the mountains to receive better air quality, but not descending far enough to be off of the Andes. Fur traders then found chinchillas when voyagers first made it to America, and because of their soft fur, were slaughtered for pelts. Eventually, chinchillas became endangered and some species were completely wiped out. Which outlawed the killing of chinchillas. People started breeding chinchillas and the lesser quality chinchillas would be sold to people who would take them in as pets, which is how chinchillas became sold as pets, but now all chinchillas are sold, instead of the lesser quality.
