The bull shark and the great white shark are regarded as the deadliest sharks by most experts.
The Tiger, Great White and Bull Shark are responsible for the most attacks on humans. The Bull Shark is particularly known for its aggression and may pose an elevated risk to swimmers because of its ability to tolerate fresh water.
The Great White SharkDespite all of the publicity given to the great white, which certainly is a maneater, and is a huge shark, capable of growing to 23 feet and weighing over 4500 pounds or more, the tiger shark actually has more attacks on humans. But the number one killer of humans is the bull shark. Found in coastal waters in all tropical and subtropical zones, from South America to the U.S., Africa and Asia.
According to the International Shark Attack Files, the U.S. counts 1049 attacks over the past 339 years (1630-2009) with 49 fatalities. Most of which happened in Florida, Hawaii, and California. "Outside the U.S., Australia and South Africa have had the most attacks" (wiki). Personally living in the "Red Triangle" I hear of a lot of white shark sightings every month, but keep in mind the shark that kills the most people worldwide is the bull shark. Mostly because they can swim up rivers into fresher waters. Once a bull was spotted over a thousand miles up the Mississippi River.
