We suspected that perhaps you meant 140 degrees "west" instead of "east", so
we looked there too, but discovered that you lose all around. That point is in the
Pacific Ocean, about 1,360 miles due west of the California coast near Garberville.
Also, "40 degrees north" is the latitude of Philadelphia, Columbus OH, central Illinois,
southern Nebraska, Denver, Salt Lake City, and Winnemucca Nevada. All are
charming places, but none are high on the list of popular Caribbean destinations.
This point is in northern Turkey, about 30 miles northeast of Erzincan, and 70 miles south southeast of Trabzon. I never got over here while I was stationed at Samsun, about 210 miles northwest of here.
