Washington County North of Tulsa Ok. The County seat is called "Bartlesville" and named after Jake Bartles. In 1879 a man named Jacob "Jake" Bartles, who was a Civil War Veteran, settled on the banks of the Caney River just south of Kansas line in Indian Terrority. He built a store and water mill and eventually the town of Bartlesville appeared. Bartles later founded Dewey Oklahoma, seven miles north of Bartlesville because he was angry that they named the town after him. He had forbid them to do so. In 1908 Jake Bartles sold out his interests in Bartlesville and moved his store to a small farmland several miles north. He called this new town Dewey.
The Frank Phillips House, also known as the Phillips Petroleum Company founder's home, is located at 1107 South Cherokee Avenue in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
