It depends on the state you're being licensed in. Each state has it's own licensing program and requirements and, at least in California and Utah, their own training you must take. Usually there's an intensive program that must be completed for your initial license and then a separate set of training requirements (typically an hour quota) that must be completed annually for license renewal.
In Utah, for your initial license they require 32 hours of "pre-service training" that takes a month to complete.
In the US no specific courses are required. Most schools require a bachelor's and don't care about the courses taken.
Foster care and adoption is not the same thing. Yes, you get to meet your adoptive parents before they adopt you. That is not always the case with foster care since if a child is abused for instance the foster families are ready to receive you in the middle of the night sometimes, when it's needed. Foster care is not meant to be permanent like adoption.
Most likely the state and the social worker might help with it if needed. but it is the Legal Guardian that takes care of it.
Both boys and girls are in foster care.
There is nothing that you can do if your girlfriend is in foster care. She will get out of foster care at 18.
Lots of people have adopted from foster care.
In California, foster care payments vary based on the age of the child and the level of care needed. As of 2023, monthly payments for basic foster care range from approximately $1,000 to $2,500 per child, depending on age and additional needs. Foster parents may also receive additional funds for clothing, school expenses, and medical needs. It's important to check with local agencies for specific rates and updates.
Foster care is supervised care for delinquent or neglected children usually in an institution or substitute home.
