Ive been trying to find the answer to this same question in encyclopedia's and all over the internet and they never say that he had any criticisms at all except for probably the south so i think there were none. i guess he was an all around good guy or no one ever found out about any thing he was criticized about.

He is significant because he was an abolitionist leader in the American Anti-Slavery Society pre-Civil War. He edited the society's newspaper, the Emancipator. He also helped draft and send anti-slavery petitioins to Congress.
