Corn, coffee, bananas and many familiar fruits and vegetables like tomatoes and bell peppers are grown in Honduras. Tropical fruits like lychees, passionfruit, star fruit and nances are plentiful. Many families keep chickens and Cows and Cattle are also raised on large ranches. Shrimp are raised in plantations in the Golfo de Fonseca and many fish and shellfish, including conch, are found in the waters of the north coast.
Bananas, it was one of the "banana republics" of the 1890's to early 20th century, Coffee, Beans, and increasingly due to U.S. demand for Honduran cigars, Tobacco. Plantains, Oranges, cantelope and other tropical fruits are also grown, but they are primarily for local markets.
