Catholics are required to go to church every Sunday. There are some exceptions such as when traveling or if the diocese cancels the obligation (say during a snow storm).

Missing church is considered a sin and must be confessed to receive absolution and forgiveness.

There are other Holy Days of Obligation where Catholics must attend mass.

Jan. 1: Mary, Mother of God. If the date is on Saturday or Monday, there is no obligation for that year.

Jan. 6: Epiphany. Transferred to the following Sunday

March 19: St. Joseph.

Ascension. Date varies

Holy Body & Blood of Christ. Transferred to the following Sunday (date varies)

June 29: Sts. Peter & Paul.

Aug. 15: Assumption. If the date is on Saturday or Monday, there is no obligation for that year.

Nov. 1: All Saints. If the date is on Saturday or Monday, there is no obligation for that year.

Dec. 8: Immaculate Conception.

Dec. 25: Christmas.

Many consider Ash Wednesday and Easter to be special days, but they are not officially holy days of obligation.

Why do Catholics say their Church is better than Martin Luther's church?

The Catholic Church was founded by Jesus Christ. The Lutheran Church was founded by Martin Luther, a mere man. The Catholics feel they have kept the teachings and traditions passed down to us intact while Luther picked and chose what his church would follow, tossing out those articles of faith he had a personal disagreement with.

What are the contributions Puritans Catholics Quakers and Mormons made to the founding of the US in timeline format please?

I'm not sure about the Puritan Catholics but I know that the Mormon church or The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (as it is formally known) was not established until 1830. So it obviously had no effect on the founding of the US (it has influenced other laws, procedures, etc. afterwards).

How does the church answer the criticism that Catholics pray to saints?

The Catholic Church teaches that when Catholics pray to saints, they are asking for their intercession and support, much like asking a friend to pray for you. This practice is based on the belief in the communion of saints, where members of the Church, both living and deceased, are interconnected and can support one another through prayer. It is not a form of worship, as worship is reserved for God alone.

Are most US citizens Catholics?

Why are there more protestants than Catholics in the US?

For one Protestant is an umbrella term that refers to any of the numerous denominations that sprung up after the Reformation, and Catholics are only one single Church. Additionally the majority of settlers in the US originally were from England, and England is a very Protestant Nation that has at many times throughout their history openly persecuted Catholics. But this is not the case in areas of the US that were settled primarily by either the French or Spanish or in areas that the original British Protestants were displaced by Catholics such as in areas like New York and Boston. However Catholicism still remains the largest single Church in the United States.
