When Joseph was in Egypt and served the pharaoh well,all those Jews were then welcomed in Egypt at the time of the famine. But that pharaoh died and a new pharaoh took his place, and then the trouble started, may be he was afraid of their number increasing. So slowly they were taken as slaves.
