This is a degree type that is more hands on rather than theory based. It is typically designed to give the student all the expertise necessary to enter entry level positions within the workforce immediately upon successful completion of the degree. The applied degree - as it indicates - is particular to the technologies which may include electronic, civil, mechanical engineering, computer technologies, and more. Some of these majors may or may not transfer well to a four year college or university. Some community colleges do have articulation agreements with four year institutions where some of these programs will transfer full faith in credit, however, you should meet with a transfer counselor at the school you attend for detailed information.

It is a 2 year degree "specializing" or focusing on a specific occupation. Roughly 75% of the classes are geared toward specifics or "hands-on" in the selected field and 25% geared toward general education type classes such as English and Math. I have an AST. I am a Chef. Some of my classes were nutrition, food cost, labor cost, budgeting, restaurant management, supervision and menu planning. Other careers include veterinarian, medical billing admin, Massage Therapy, paramedic, pharmacy technician, etc... It is considered a type of Associate's Degree.
