What demon causes someone to be gay?

One meaning of the word "demon" is a supernatural evil being that has the ability to "posses" a person and influence their behaviour. In the modern world, we understand more about mental illnesses and how they effect behaviour. In the past people did not know about mental illness so they blamed demons for people's unusual behaviour. Some people with limited education or intelligence still do this today.

Having said that, being gay is not a mental illness by any modern definition. Homosexuality is a natural result of an unusual hormonal balance during the development of a male baby in his mother's womb. All male babies start development as female (so men still have nipples) and hormones are required to change the babies body and brain from female to male. Females are attracted to males so if there are not enough hormones, the boy may still be attracted to other males for life.

Some psychologists use the word "demon" or "demonic" in a more interesting and modern way to describe a psychological problem where the mind develops solutions or modes of thought to resolve certain kinds of problems but these solutions only make the problems worse.

Very many heterosexual men (non-gay) still have some minor sexual attraction to other men. They are not gay but they still sometimes feel sexual attraction to other males. This is natural because of the way the male brain develops as described above. The mind develops some defence mechanisms to defend and strengthen their heterosexual identity. Some of these mechanisms are "demonic" in that they do not resolve the man's occasional attraction to other men. These demonic defence mechanisms result in the man being fearful, aggressive or violent towards men they think are gay. What is really happening is the man is worried that he might be gay himself.

So men who hate or fear gay men are really worried that they are gay themselves. Sometimes when men become violent towards gay men or speak very strongly against gay men, it is because they are frequently sexually attracted to other men and they need to defend their straight (heterosexual) identity strongly. In some cases, these men ARE actually gay but they are suppressing their feelings very strongly. It is this kind of mental problem that is more properly called "demonic".

Being gay is not caused by a demon or any external entity. Sexual orientation is a natural and normal variation of human sexuality, determined by a complex interplay of genetic, hormonal, and environmental factors. It is important to recognize and accept that being gay is a natural part of human diversity.
