All of the decisions needed to route a packet to a destination can be done with a layer 3 device (a router), or a layer 2 device (a switch) if you are on the same segment.

There is really no need (from a pure functionality perspective) to ever unwrap a packet to that level until it is at the destination device. However there are plenty of reasons to unwrap packets do just this if we are looking at it from a security, or QOS perspective.

So devices that will do things at layer 4 are going to be things like firewalls, proxies, network monitoring tools, packet shaping devices, and the actual destination device itself.

Is diode an active or passive device?

An active device is a device that takes input energy to operate. The only energy a diode uses is from the signal applied to it (it has one input, one output, and no other terminals), so it is a passive device. To be an active device, a separate power source must be applied to it - such as the case for operation amplifiers, for example.

What functions as a bridge and a router?

A type of device known as a brouter (or bridge router). A bridge forwards non-routable protocols, and a router routes routable protocols. Brouters have both capabilities built into them, and thus reduce the need for two separate devices.

What is a connectionless?

Connectionless Protocols: These protocols do not establish a connection between devices. As soon as a device has data to send to another, it just sends it. Answer:A Connectionless Protocol is a data communication method in which communication occurs between hosts with no previous setup. The device at one end of the communication transmits data to the other, without first ensuring that the recipient is available and ready to receive the data. The device sending a message simply sends it addressed to the intended recipient. The internet Protocol (IP) and User Datagram Protocol (UDP) are connectionless protocols, but TCP/IP (the most common use of IP) is connection-oriented
