St. Andrew, along with his brother Simon Peter, were commercial fishermen in Bethsaida on the Sea of Galilee. He was a disciple of St. John the Baptist and the first apostle of Our Lord. He preached the Gospel in Asia Minor, Greece and, possibly, in Russia. In Greece he was crucified on an x-shaped cross.
