His 1963 "I Have a Dream" speech is still well-known and widely respected as a defining moment in the fight for civil rights. Dr. King was assassinated in 1968. Barack Obama grew up with more rights and opportunities, thanks to the efforts of people like Martin Luther King, and that is why Dr. King has always been a hero of President Obama's. Mr. Obama became America's first black president in 2008, and it would not have happened if the civil rights movement had not been successful.
