Congress and Lincoln both agreed on a bill creating the Freedman's Bureau.
The subject of the 1850 Fugitive Slave Act was a topic in the series of debates between Lincoln and Douglas. They saw the act as part of a hard fought debate that gave birth to the 1850 Missouri Compromise. Lincoln, was also sensitive about leaning to close to the Republican abolitionists . Each of them also saw slavery as an institution that history itself would dissolve. With that in mind, creating more controversy over the act would not help the nation as a whole.
Not every person who was against slavery supported President Lincoln's position that a voluntary transfer of African Americans to Panama was a good idea. Some abolitionists did agree with him . Harriet Beecher Stowe, who authored Uncle Tom's Cabin, did support colonization. Others such as scholar Frederick Douglas did not. In Lincoln's 1862 meeting with Black clergymen he complained about objections to colonization by saying that certain Blacks might do very well in the US after the war. With that said, he urged the clergymen to support him because many freed slaves might not do well in the US because of racial bias. Lincoln urged these leaders to support him because the area of Panama he had in mind was rich in natural resources.
Because the newly-elected Lincoln would not agree to any extension of slavery. So the final attempt at compromise failed.
Lincoln championed the notion that the south should not be punished for their transgression in order to heal the nation. It was an instance of looking at the bigger picture for the good of the people. Others in the union wanted to punish the south severely. After his death, Andrew Johnson brought about Lincoln's plan even though he didn't fully agree with it.
Most residents agree that Lincoln was one of the best Presidents ever.
The assassin, John Wilkes Booth did not agree with Lincoln's plan on ending the slaves, so in Ford's Theatre, Booth snuck on Lincoln, and shot him. I am very interested in Lincoln's Assassination.
yes
Because the two presidents Abraham Lincoln did not agree with the idea of slavery.
One of the reasons could consist in his fear that Abraham Lincoln would be cruel against the opposing states.
When Abraham Lincoln was serving as a congressman in 1848, he and Horace Greeley first met. Greeley was an abolitionist and the editor of the later to be pro-Republican New York City newspaper, the New York Tribune. Later the Tribune would become involved in Abraham Lincoln's political career. The Tribune was a nationally read newspaper and at time, Greeley and Lincoln would agree or disagree on various important issues such as slavery. This was important when Lincoln won the US presidency. As an abolitionist, Greeley had influence with Radical Republicans, with whom Lincoln needed for support.
He didn't use the war to get rid of slavery. He turned it into a war against slavery in order to keep the British from supporting the Confederates, which at that time could have meant Lincoln losing the war.
Abraham Lincoln felt there were factions within the Whig Party he could no longer agree with. There were both pro and anti-slave Whigs, mainly depending on what part of the country they were from. The New Republican party was comprised of former Whigs who were anti-slavery and wanted a party that just stood for that.

they agree
In 1860 Abraham Lincoln was elected as the 16th president of the United States. Lincoln did not agree with slavery and wanted to put a stop to it. The south wanted slavery and did not want it to stop, that means they did not want Abraham to be elected. After the election was official, 11 states seced from the union. They created the Confederacy of America, and elected Jefferson Davis as their president. Not long after they seceded the one and only Civil War started.
No, it was in fact the North who won the Civil War because: The South was fighting for the right to own slaves and the north did not agree at all. Sometimes southern slaves tried to escape the south and flee to the North. (at that time all African- Americans were enslaved and could do nothing about it) . Back when slavery occurred, Abraham Lincoln was our President and of course, he also did not agree with slavery. So the South declared war and before long the South lost. Slavery was put to an end. Sadly though, shortly after the war had ended, Abraham and his wife were in a theater, watching a film and Abraham Lincoln was shot in the back of the head and killed by a southerner.
