He did it gradually by withdrawing funds in insignificant amounts over a formidable period of time. He then put the money into wildcat banks that issued their own unique currency. The lack of ease of communications at the time precipitated rampant inflation. The most notable consequence of this was the Panic of 1837, but Jackson was no longer president so he got off scot-free while his successor, Martin Van Buren, took the heat. This is one of Jackson's many faults.
