Louis Pasteur came about the process of heating heating beverages in order to kill the bacteria that got inside. This is known as pasteurization.
Known as the founder of microbiology, Pasteur discovered the role of bacteria in fermentation. His experiments with bacteria conclusively disproved the theory of spontaneous generation and led to the theory that infection is caused by germs. Extrapolating from this knowledge, Pasteur then developed a process in which liquids such as milk were heated to kill all bacteria and moulds already present within them. This process became known as pasteurisation.

Louis Pasteur is best known for developing the process of pasteurization. Pasteurization involves the heating of a liquid to a specific heat for a certain length of time then immediately cooling it.

I think one of the most important was pasteurization. French chemist, Louis Pasteur invented the "pasteurizing" method to kill germs in wine, beer and milk. Equally important was the fact that Pasteur was among the first people to believe germs caused illness. This was at a time when most doctors didn't believe germs could make you sick and wouldn't sanitize their hands or instruments.
Louis Pasteur in 1861. He saved the milk and beer industries by suggesting that people lightly heat the liquid is a sealed container to kill the germs. His germ theory was what helped him figure out that it was germs that made food go bad, not bad food that made germs, which in turn was key to his pasteurisation idea.
