What did Louis XVI give Marie Antoinette as a gift for her exclusive use after she had her first child?

He gave her the Petit Trianon. It was a house that Louis XV had ordered the built for. He had meant it as a pleasure house and wanted to give it to his mistress Madame du Pompadour, but she died before it was ready. After that, he met his other mistress Madame du Barry there often. The little house looked slightly like the Schonbrunn palace in Vienna where Marie Antoinette had grown up, and several people sarcastically called it "Little Vienna). Marie Antoinette loved the house very much and spent a lot of time there, away from her restricted life at court with all its etiquette and prying eyes.

What reputation did Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI have with the French public?

Marie Antionette and King Louis were not respected and loved by the people of France at the time, firstly due to the fact that while France was starving and growing in debt they were refurbishing their palaces. secondly they were not popular people as Marie Antionette was Austrian and therefore was not respected nor welcomed by the people of france even though she was a caring and loving queen, the french public used propoganda in order to give her a bad reputation. They were not popular and were seen almost as if they were an evil force driving France into ruins and thus were not respectd nor loved by the fellow people of france at the time

What did Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette do to provoke the war?

They did not provoke a war. The revolution was started a long time before Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette were even born. It all started with Louis XIV, the great grandfather of Louis XVI. He had built Versailles and spent millions on staff, causing a gigantic debt in the treasury. When his successor Louis XV became King (he was then 5!), he didn't know how to solve all the debt, so he started raising taxes. Conveniently enough, the clergy and nobility were cleared from taxes, although they were the richest people. To make matters worse, Louis XV declared war to several countries, while there was absolutely no money to pay for it. By the time Louis XVI succeeded him, France was bankrupt and was actually declared so in 1789. Louis XVI had desperately tried to clear the debt, but did not see any other solution to do so then to raise taxes, even though the French bourgeoisie was starving. He tried to make the nobility and clergy also pay taxes, but they became furious at him when they heard of his plans and prohibited him the execution of these plans. So, this King who so desperately wanted to solve the financial mess the country was in, found himself with his back against the wall and did not know what to do. Everybody wanted it to be solved, but nobody (of the nobility and clergy) were willing to give up some of their priviliges to do so. Instead, they blamed everything on Louis XVI and especially his wife Marie Antoinette.

Was Louis XVI of France gay?

Probably not, since he did have four children with Marie Antoinette. If it was just an heir he wanted, he could have stopped sleeping with her all together after their second child, because then they had a son. He was very shy towards women and the reason it took him so long to warm up to Marie Antoinette is probably an effect of his childhood. His parents died at a very young age; first his father and 3 months later his mother. He had a difficult childhood because his parents neglected him in favor of his bright and handsome older brother, Louis, duc de Bourgogne, who died at the age of ten in 1761. The sorrow his parents felt at the death of their elder son made it difficult for them to give Louis-Auguste the attention and affection he needed. He was then under the care of duc de La Vauguyon, and received a strict and conservative education from the latter. The duc de La Vauguyon also told Louis XVI over and over again never to trust the Austrians. That is probably why, when ironically he was given an Austrian bride, he had a lot of trouble warming up to her. Also, he had a problem with his foreskin being to tight so that intercourse was not possible until a surgery made it better. He and Marie Antoinette were also cousins (10th cousins twice removed); Charles VI of France was ancestor to them both. The alleged sexual dysfunction was thought to be phimosis. That means the foreskin cannot be pulled back and it can lead to painful intercourse. According to some accounts, phimosis prevented Louis XVI of France from impregnating his wife, Marie Antoinette, for the first seven years of their marriage. She was 14 and he was 15 when they married in 1770.

How long did Marie Antoinette rule as Archduchess of Austria?

She was Archduchess of Austria only titularly. All of her siblings were Archukes/Archduchess of Austria, as it was common to give this title to the children of Holy Roman Emperor. In fact, Austria was then ruled by Marie Antoinette's mother, Maria Theresa.

How was Marie Antoinette outspoken?

She dared to openly critisize and mock the ancient and ridiculous etiquette at the French court which was horribly old fashioned and very weary. She always dared to give her opinion and make decisions, something Louis XVI could never. And something that was not the custom for woman at that time.

Why did King Louis rule for 15 minutes?

The 15 minutes is an approximate number. Louis was married to the only surviving child of Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI. Louis XIX was actually Louis XVI's nephew, making Louis XIX and his wife, Marie-Thérèse-Charlotte, cousins. His father, Louis XVI's brother, was Charles X. Got all of that? In the July Revolution of 1830, the people of France demanded that Charles give up the throne because they hated his policies and felt they were too repressive. He reluctantly granted the wish of the people and abdicated, making Louis XIX the new king. However, the people didn't want Charles' descendants in power either, and, perhaps remembering how her parents' reign ended, Marie-Thérèse-Charlotte pleaded with her husband to abdicate as well. And he did, 20 minutes after becoming King of France. It's disputed because some historians think it's too short of a time frame to recognize.
