Peter the Great, the czar of Russia was an important person in the history of Russia. He is an important leader because he tried to modernize Russia. He wanted to bring Russia closer to the Western European nations that were more sophisticated then Russia.

∙ 6y agoHis main goal in life was to take Russia into the 1700's and make them a sea power with a Navy. Even today the Russian Navy school is located in St. Petersburg. He was a czar so he used the serfs to built the city out of swampy muddy land and over 25000 died doing it.
